The landscapes in winter and spring in Val Bormida are truly breathtaking.

Val Bormida is a valley located a few minutes from the Ligurian Sea - within the Mediterranean Sea - and the hills of Piedmont formed by extensive forests, peaks of varying heights, within the former we find the alpine peaks and within the latter the Apennine mountains.

All this mountainous landscape surrounded by (almost) evergreen vegetation, in all its shades, together with an extremely valuable and varied fauna and flora.

Los paisajes en invierno y primavea en Val Bormida son verdaderamente deslumbrantes.

Val Bormida es un valle situado a pocos minutos del mar de Liguria -dentro del Mar Mediterráneo- y de las colinas del Piamonte formado por extensos bosques, picos me mayor o menor altura, dentro de los primeros encontramos las cimas alpinas y dentro de los segundos los montes apeninos.

Todo este paisaje montañoso rodeado por una vegetación (casi) siempre verde, en todas sus tonalidades, junto con una fauna y una flora extremadamente valiosas y variadas.

The mountain people with their goats (which provide them with milk from which they make delicious cheeses) prepare in spring the small pieces of land for the cultivation that the winter, too rigid, does not allow them to do.

During the spring they cut the grass, bale it for the cattle feed in winter and work at full pace. There is no rest. Much less vacations.

Los montañeses con sus cabras (que les proveen la leche de la cuál hacen riquísimos quesos preparan en primavera las pequeñas fracciones de tierra para el cultivo que, el invierno demasiado rígido, no les permite hacer.

Durante la primavera se corta el pasto, se enfarda para alimento del ganado en invierno y se trabaja a pleno ritmo. No hay descanso. Mucho menos vacaciones.

It is the season so awaited by the inhabitants of the rural areas but also of the big cities. The season of mushrooms, so appreciated in the Italian cuisine, begins.

But also the insects make their appearance, some real predators such as ants build gigantic anthills in the middle of the forest.

The forest is the real "supermarket" of fresh mushrooms. The varieties are of little importance, although porcini, finferli, pleurotus, ovuli, spugnole, galletti and prataioli prevail.

The variety is enormous and the good Italian cuisine accepts them all equally, each one in its own specialty obviously.

Es la época tan esperada por los habitantes de las áreas rurales pero también de las grandes ciudades. Comienza la época de la úsqueda de hongos tan estimados en la cocina italiana.

Pero también hacen su aparición los insectos, algunos verdaderos depredadores como las hormigas construyen hormigueros gigantescos en medio del bosque.

El bosque es el verdadero "supermercado" de los hongos frescos. Las variedades poco importan aunque prevalecen los porcini, finferli, pleurotus, ovuli, spugnole, galletti e prataioli.

La variedad es enorme y la buena cocina italiana los acepta a todos por igual, cada uno en su especialidad obviamente.

And while some work and prepare land and livestock for the harsh winter ahead others, very few, enjoy the enchanting freshness of the woods of the Val Bormida, in this case Biestro, fraction of Altare to enjoy a well-deserved rest and be as far as possible from the stress of big cities.

One breathes pure air, sleeps peaceful dreams. There is no alarm clock and no shocks. Life takes on another dimension. You enjoy nature in all its dimension.

Y mientras algunos trabajan y preparan terrenos y ganado para el duro invierno que se aproxima otros, muy pocos, disfrutan de la encantadora frescura de los bosques de la Val Bormida, en este caso Biestro, fracción de Altare para gozar de un merecido descanso y estar lo más alejados posible del estrés de las grandes ciudades.

Se respira aire puro, su duermen sueños tranquilos. No hay despertador ni sobresaltos. La vida adquiere otra dimensión. Se goza de la naturaleza en toda su dimensión.

And while spring is disappearing, the first symptoms of autumn and winter are beginning to be felt. The forest begins to change.

The luminous green of the chestnut trees, larches, maples, conifers and other alpine vegetation begins to take on a tone that changes little by little to brown in the deciduous plants and to a more opaque and less brilliant green in the evergreens.

And in this way the spectacle becomes multicolored waiting for the first snows.

The people who have come from the city to spend their vacations in the so-called "second home" of the mountain return to their homes, to the feverish and routine rhythm of every day in the cities of greater or lesser importance. The rhythm is always frenetic. Nature rests. The forest prepares to accumulate humidity in its lower part to allow its survival in the continuous carousel of life.

Y mientras va desapareciendo la primavera comienzan a sentirse los primeras síntomas del otoño y del invierno. El bosque comienza a cambiar.

El verde luminoso de los castaños, alerces, arces, coníferas y demás vegetación alpina comienza a tomar ese tonalidad que cambiando de a poco al marr2n en la splantas de hojas caducas y a un verde más opaco y menos brillante en las plantas de hojas perennes.

Y de esta manera el espectáculo se hace multicolor esperando las primeras nieves.

Las personas que de la ciudad han venido a pasar sus vacaciones en la llamada "segunda casa" de la montaña vuelven a sus hogares, al ritmo febril y rutinario de todos los días en las ciudades de mayor o menor importancia. El ritmo es siempre frenético. La naturaleza se reposa. El bosque se prepara a acumular humedad en su parte baja para permitir su supervivencia en el continuo carrousel de la vida.

In mountainous and/or alpine areas the seasons do not follow - in terms of duration - the same rhythm as in tropical or subtropical areas of the rest of the world.

Winter is very long. It goes from September-October to March, when spring begins. There are at least six to seven months of cold and snow. The remaining months of the year are divided into a very short spring that goes from April to May and a summer that includes the months of July-August and part of September sometimes but not always.

For this reason the locals make the most of this time of the year. Because during the rest of the year it is very difficult to work and carry out agricultural tasks.

En las áreas montañosas y/o alpinas las estaciones no siguen -en cuanto a duración- el mismo ritmo que en las zonas tropicales o subtropicales del resto del mundo.

El invierno es muy largo. Va desde setiembre-octubre hasta marzo que comienza la primavera.. Son al minimo seis-siete meses de frio y nieve. Los restantes meses del año se dividen en una primavera muy corta que va abril a mayo y un verano que comprende los meses de julio-agosto-y parte de setiembre algunas veces pero no siempre.

Por ese motivo los lugareños aprovechan al máximo esta época del año. Porque durante el resto es muy difícil trabajar y realizar tareas agrícolas.

The snow will be transformed into water and will go to feed the forest substrate with the falling leaves and other organic components that besides giving it moisture will serve as a splendid natural fertilizer to the forest subsoil.

The animals rest in their burrows and from time to time some come out to hunt. Others, such as the cedron rooster, come out to display their splendid red cretaceous creta amidst a white blanket of snow.

The frenetic life of the cities here is transformed into peace and tranquility. The forest and mountain community rests until the beginning of the next spring.

La nieve se transformará en agua e irá a alimentar el substrato del bosque con las hojas que caen y los demás componentes orgánicos que aparte de darle humedad le servirén de espléndidp abono natural al subsuelo boscoso.

Los animales descansan en sus madrigueras y de vez en cuando algunos salen a cazar. Otros como el gallo cedrón salen a ehibir su espléndida creta roja en medio a un manto blanco de nieve.

La vida frenética de las ciudades aquí se transforma en paz y tranquilidad.

El bosque y la comunidad montana reposa hasta el inicio de la próxima primavera.
